At the Institute, we believe in the vital role that transparency and accountability play in maintaining the integrity of the financial systems. ACFE’s 2024 Report to the Nations estimates 43% of fraud is identified through Whistleblowing tips and whistleblowing is predicted to be on the government’s failure to prevent fraud guidance. Therefore, it is an increasingly important consideration for economic crime awareness and risk management.
This October, as part of Speak Up Month, we are proud to support WhistleblowersUK in their Whistleblowing Awareness Week from 21-25 October. Including the FS specific event hosted by Mazars on 24 October 2024.
Whistleblowing is essential in combating financial crime as a regulatory control and promoting ethical practices within organisations. By encouraging individuals to identify issues and speak safely it can create more responsible environments for everyone that also demonstrate strong risk management and commercial good practice. Throughout the Whistleblowing Awareness Week, various events will take place across London, providing a platform for discussion, education, and empowerment for whistleblowers and advocates alike.
We invite our members and the wider community to participate in these events and engage in critical conversations around whistleblowing to encourage and promote a ‘Speak Up’ culture and its alignment to legal and regulatory expectations and where reform is needed across all sectors, to drive better working practice.
